Authors: Nwanguma, C. I
Abstract: Peaceful co-existence in Nigeria has consistently been proven almost impossible
amidst the various efforts to live together in harmony as a people; and this has
been due to the activities evil men who have consistently taken undue advantage
of the endemic ethnic biases or religious bigotries in the society to perpetrate
their evil agenda. Given the religious stance of the issue, this study was poised
to explore a scriptural approach in unraveling the matter. Basically, the method
adopted in carrying out the study was an analytical appraisal of the selected text
as Paul’s theme in the passage was assessed vis-à-vis the subject matter of the
work. The peace in Nigeria was termed negative, where the peace in existence is
mere absence of direct violence, war, or fear etc. or anything worse than such as
affirms the study. Basically, the deduction of the study was that the issue could
not be who a neighbour is but what the problem is. Men of mischief were seen
taking undue advantage of the ignorant, idle, and indigent youths to accomplish
their nefarious selfish interests; and the counsel of this work is that such must
not be accommodated: the appropriate quarters even the government must resist
them squarely especially since the Government’s primary assignment is to ensure
safety of lives and properties of the citizens though such may be hard for them
to do on the ground that most of the ills in the society are often caused by majority
of them in government.2018-02-01T00:00:00ZPEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE IN NIGERIA: AN ANALYTICAL STUDY OF CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE OF NEIGHBOURLINESSNwanguma, C. Authors: Okunoye, J. O.
Abstract: The task of training a child is imperative (Proverbs 22:6) and its importance in building
sustainable future for a nation cannot be over-emphasised because, as the Yoruba say, a
child that is not built (trained) will sell the house built by the parent(s). However, it has
been observed that most parents, nowadays, due to economic hardship and the search for better economic opportunities had little or no time for their children’s upbringing. Many
parents have therefore abandoned their responsibility of providing guidance to their
children in the pursuit of wealth. Consequently, many parents now take their children to
childcare, as early as two months, denying them the natural touch of the mother and
exposing them to strange companions at day care centres or with surrogate mothers. This
no doubt threatens early childhood training which is considered the most important phase of life that determines the quality of health, well-being, learning and behaviour across life span, and given the destructiveness of the absent/pre-occupied-parent syndrome that plagues the home life and the prevalence moral decadence in Nigerian society, this paper examines the place of early childhood training in building sustainable Nigerian future. Historical-critical method is adopted and relevant books and articles on the subject matter are critically examined. As part of the findings of this research paper, building sustainable Nigerian future is going to be an illusion without proper and effective early childhood training. It is therefore recommended that structures for proper and effective early childhood training be put in place by all stakeholders, that is, parents, government and schools.2017-01-01T00:00:00ZWhy did Yahweh reject the sacrifice of Cain? A Theological Reflection on Gen. 4:1-16 and its implication for Contemporary Christians in NigeriaOKUNOYE, J. OAKANO, E. A Theological Reflection on Gen. 4:1-16 and its implication for Contemporary Christians in Nigeria
Authors: OKUNOYE, J. O; AKANO, E. K
Abstract: In any sacrifice, three parties are of paramount importance. These include the deity to whom the sacrifice is offered, the worshipper who offered the sacrifice either all alone or with the assistance of the priest as the intermediary, and the victim of the sacrifice. The sacrificial material otherwise called the sacrificial victim is so important because it is a means to an end, it is an instrument by which the covenant relationship is established and upheld. Nevertheless, in the Old Testament, the purpose of the sacrifice dictated the sacrificial material(s) to be used. However, the account of the sacrifice of Cain and Abel in Gen. 4 looks paradoxical as Abel‟s sacrifice was accepted by Yahweh while that of Cain was rejected! Why was this so? What was it about Cain‟s offering that made it unacceptable and that of Abel acceptable most especially when one considers the fact that both bloody (animal) and unbloody (grain and wine) were commanded and common in the Old Testament. More importantly, what is the implication of Cain‟s unacceptable offering for Christians today? What lessons can both church leaders and members learn from this incident in this era where church members are being coerced or forced by church leaders through various unwholesome methods to give/donate sacrificially without minding the means, the readiness and the mental attitude or heart disposition of the giver/donor? Indeed, what constitute sacrifice for today‟s Christians and how can Christians today offer an acceptable sacrifice? These and many other questions were answered in this research paper2018-01-01T00:00:00Z
