dc.description.abstract Corrosion has been a major problem of industries which causes a decrease in the thickness of the metal itself. Raw material of Musa paradisiaca (Banana) Leaves, MPL was utilized as inhibitor of mild steel in HCl solution under different experimental conditions such as inhibitor concentration, corrosion time and temperature. The plant extract was characterized using FT-IR and GC-MS. From the experiment, it was discovered that increase in weight loss is as a result of increase in corrosion rate and decrease in inhibition efficiency. It was observed that the concentration of the inhibitor affects the corrosion rate as well as the inhibition efficiency. An increase in the volume of the plant extract causes an increase in inhibition efficiency. The adsorption of the plant extract takes place according to Langmuir`s adsorption isotherm with a correlation coefficient (R2) >0.9. Thermodynamic parameters such as activation energy and enthalpy calculated are 0.014, 6.72 and -19.53 kJ/mol/K respectively. Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GC–MS) analysis of MPL extracts revealed different biomolecules containing electron donating elements such as O, S, N and heteroatoms in their structures which were also confirmed by FT-IR analysis. Thus, the extract of Musa paradiciaca was seen as an effective inhibitor of the mild steel in acid medium and can therefore be considered as a good corrosion inhibitor. Solvent extraction was then carried out on the pulverized leaves having 42.51% as yield extract. en_US
