dc.description.abstract Music is the art as directed by the muse. This muse echoes social activity inextricably woven into everyday communal life. Hence, making music a key aspect of thought. This is where the theme of emancipation emerges with an effort channeled to cause economic, political and social change for equality specifically in support of the disenfranchised individuals or groups. To unite this argument, we have explored the subjects of freedom, social crusade in Asa’s selected songs through the lens of Marxism where class, a form of political ideology is the basis for struggling. Hence, this research seeks to know how music as a work of art is employed as a weapon of emancipation. en_US
